As the cost of living continues to rise, customer spending behaviour has shifted with many cutting back to try and make ends meet. BritainThinks reported a third of people have already reduced their spending where possible. This trend is set to continue, with the non-essential market set to shrink by £12 billion.

In difficult times, what can brands do to keep their customers loyal?

Aim to make life easier
If your product or service is solving a common pain point for consumers, use that clearly in your messaging. It can be very difficult for people to think outside the box when they’re facing major dilemmas.

Consider promotions and rewards
Whether this is by introducing a 'budget' option for your product or service, weekly deals like Aldi's Super 6 or introducing a loyalty program to allow customers to build up to rewards.

Focus on your brand
It’s now more vital than ever to differentiate yourself from your competitors and leave no doubt in the consumers’ minds as to which brand they stand by. Find out what makes you unique and shout about it from the rooftops!

Offer valuable content
Ensure your content is giving true value to your community. Challenge your team to reassess everything in the plan and ask themselves, is this relevant? What value is this adding? Adjust as necessary but remember to be sensitive! Times are tough for a lot of people so keep this in mind in your messaging.
